The One Little Application You Couldn’t Live Without

Aside from obvious necessary applications like browsers, e-mail clients, and full-blown word processors, what “little application” do you use on a daily basis that you just couldn’t live without?

I’d have to give the nod to EditPad Lite (although this tends to change from time to time). This beefed-up Notepad sits in my system tray all day, often with six to seven random files open or unsaved, untitled notes that I want to remember throughout the day. It serves its purpose as a freeware application that is small, unobtrusive, and something I couldn’t be as productive without. -ram

This pegs me as a loser--AOL Instant Messenger. Without it, I'd never hear from all the lazy people I know.

I use both Robert's nod (AIM) and Ryan's (EditPad) but, honest to God, Calculator does it for me. You wouldn't believe how many times I see coworkers and friends search for a calculator when they're in front of their PCs!

Paul -- Ah... CTRL-ALT-L = calculator for me. :)

Robert -- Yes, Quintessential CD (good freeware CD player) is another essential one for me.

xv on Unix is a very handy image viewer. It's much faster than firing up The Gimp when I want to view an image or two.

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
