When you visit a person’s house, how many times do you ring the doorbell?
I find that two rings, maybe a minute apart, are sufficient. Three, maybe in a pinch or a moment of panic. But by then, I just shrug my shoulders and say, “That person isn’t home!” Passersby look at me funny, too, because they realize I’m talking to a door.
The reason I ask, other than curiosity, is that yesterday we apparently had a visitor at our house when we weren’t around; this guy rang the bell four times and then rapped on our window! That’s persistence.
I can understand the persistent ringing, to a point, but rapping on a window should be reserved for the police and maybe, maybe Steve Jobs. -pm
