The Hoopla About NetSol

Here at the Ping, we’ve had our own problems with Network Solutions. I’ve mention them a few times myself. Since the domain registration industry was demonopolized/decentralized a while back, Network Solutions (and now Verisign) have gone steadily downhill with their service. There was a brief period right after the merger/acquisition/whatever-it-was where I thought things might improve, but there’s no doubt I was wrong: they’re still falling prey to the types of fraud they did six years ago; namely, fax fraud.

Recently fax fraud has reared its ugly head again with Hoopla.com. A German individual faxed a fraudulent request for transfer of ownership of the site to himself/herself and Network Solutions went ahead and processed it without ever letting the real owner now about it. And now, Network Solutions’ attitude is, “Yeah, we probably made a mistake, but we can’t do anything about it.” It’s painful to realize that Network Solutions has pretty much been cruising along the last four or five years with the worst customer service in the domain registration field, relying simply on their well-known name to stick around. Oh, and don’t even get me started on their recent sickening marketing tactics.

I’m very pleased to be done with Network Solutions for all of my personal domains right now. I do have a few work-related ones to transfer, and you can bet that will be taken care of next week.
