Back to School

If you’re not in school now, would you consider going back?

I’ve given a lot of thought to this (made easier by my unemployment last year), and as it turns out I’m not quite sure. The dilemma is deciding what to go into while thinking about those inevitable student loans… and the fact that a Master’s doesn’t necessarily guarantee a job anywhere, given the economy. But it might be nice to walk around being called a “Master”, or better yet, “Doctor”….

I think I’ll go back, someday.

I would go. Maybe this time I could get it right and study what I should have studied the first time around.

I not only would go back to H.S. but I would decide to go to college sooner than I did. If that wasn't possible, The Air Force should have been decided on. I would love to have a chance at flying a helicopter. What was wrong with my mind when I was able? Hine site is always clearer than foresite!

Heck no. My master's thesis was stressful enough...I have no desire to go through that again.

When I was attending school, I ran out of finances after my junior year, and was forced to drop out.

Here's my dillemma: My line of work (radio) is one where a degree is really optional, and my current job pays well enough and returning to school is an option, not a priority.

In any case, I made up my mind last month that I *am* gonna get the degree, even if it takes me doing night classes for a while. If nothing else, I'd like to have some closure on the issue.

I went back 1 year after graduating from college and got a graduate degree after 13 straight quarters of night school. Part of the motivation was that my employer had great education benefits and I could not think of any reason to not get a Masters Degree if somebody was picking up 80% of the tab.

I have ONE MORE semester of grad school left. Grad school is like some twisted version of fraternity hazing. They put you through so much crap and it's such hard work. BUT if you can make it through pledging...they'll let you into the club.

I think it's perseverance more than anything. It's about seeing if you have the strength to follow through and not give up.

Sure...I sound bitter but lack of sleep will do that to you :)

I *am*, in fact, heading back to school--undergrad, no less--to effect a massive reorganization of career opportunities. I got stuck in marketing, and at age 30 am finally able to go for what I should've done all along: biology. No, really. I'm excited.

Placement tests were a hoot, I must say. I last took a math class (BC Calc AP) in my soph year of HS, so as I plowed through the math test, I realized that last time I took a class in the subject, nearly everyone else around me was FOUR YEARS OLD.

Nope. I don't think I'll be going back to school any time soon. Except for little classes like the Japanese class I'm taking. But I don't consider that school. That's more... recreation.

Maybe it's the general bad memories I have of being in school. Or maybe it's just because it seems like grad school for computer stuff involves a lot of theory and such, which I don't have the math for and I don't really care about.

Maybe if/when I decide I want to do something else with my life, I'll go for it. For now... I don't even consider it.
