Company Holiday Parties

This past weekend was my company’s holiday party, a nice gathering where even the geekiest among us dressed up in suits and enjoyed good food and conversation. Since I’ve started my job, I’ve never missed a holiday party, even those years where I didn’t quite feel up to going. Almost every year, someone’s gotten silly drunk and last year we had someone who’s faculties weren’t quite about them try to come in off the street and join our party. There haven’t been absolutely scandalous events, though, as far as I know.

Do you usually attend your company’s holiday parties and do you have any particularly good stories to share?

Ours was this weekend too. This was the first year since 98 that I've worked for a company that had a holiday party. Ours was in Adams Morgan at some trendy bar I would normally not be caught dead in. No ties.

I will be having my first "real" company party, ever, this week. I'd been to only one before, but that was really just a catered breakfast a couple jobs ago.

I think this one will be fun.

My dad's previous employer hired Bruce Hornsby to play at one of their parties many years ago.

We get a half-day for our holiday party. My boss has a nice resturant open early for us wherein we eat drink, drink some more, and are generally merry. After about 4 hours at the resturant, we all head back to my employer's house on the beach for a continued drink-fest. This proves to be a very merry event for the majority of the employees, alas because of my low status on the totem pole, I am the designated driver for most of the merrymakers.

My first ever holiday party was this past Friday, and I gotta say, I liked it quite a bit. Catered dinner, door prizes (I won four lift tickets to a ski resort in the Poconos), and just an all around good time.

Another bonus: You learn which people are more entertaining after 4 drinks at the open bar. ;p

Our company had 2 parties this year - one on Friday evening for Mngt and one Saturday (2-6) for "employees". At the Mngt party, there was an open bar and food . . . at the employee's party, there was punch (uhggg) and bad food. Geez, just a confirmation that it's good to be Management!

What is this then?
