Napkins

A few years ago, my wife and I were at Costco when I spotted it. A package of over 1,000 napkins for $7.00. “Think about it!” I said to her, “We’ll never need to buy napkins again. At least, not for another year.”

I’m sad to report that we are finally, finally down to the last few napkins from that package.

While I might be chastised for purchasing paper napkins instead of reusable, cloth ones (and I shan’t disagree with that sentiment,) I also think it’s rather fabulous that a large package of napkins could last for multiple years. We moved these napkins with us from Chicago to Denver, folks.

I also prefer using paper towels. They go further and are much thicker. Can be used for more things than just wiping a mouth or fingers. One less thing to store around the hourse.

I use the napkins from local fast food restaraunts. Sounds cheap, I know, but it really came out of an effort to clean up my house. I usually stop for a coffee/soft drink at the McDonalds around the way in the morning while working, and I wind up getting...about 20 napkins for my one beverage. It came to be that I've got McDonald's napkins coming out of everywhere, so I simply decided to use all of the McD's napkins before I bought more...it's been 8 months and counting.

We use the fast food napkins at our house as well. Of course, we still have the white paper napkins in case we run out or for those "special occasions."

Ahhhhhh, so much waste! I use cloth napkins. You can often get them for a buck a piece at Marshall's or Burlington Coat Factory.

Super late follow up: we now use cloth napkins. I think we bought one more pack of napkins, but then went the cloth route due to all of the waste.

We are also using cloth napkins now. We keep paper on hand for when we have lots of houseguests for numerous days, but one package lasts us way longer now.

We’ve also replaced most of our paper towel usage with these: http://www.twistclean.com/eurospongecloth/
