Oatmeal

I like oatmeal.

I didn’t used to.

Kashi’s oatmeal is really good. And it’s packed with good vitamins.

I also like grits. Other people from the north don’t understand why.

Go with steel cut oats and you'll never look at rolled oats again. McCann's is excellent, but expensive. You can buy them in bulk at healthy grocery stores for pennies a pound. In bulk, for whatever reason, they are always labeled oat groats.

I lived in the South for over 6 years, and I still HAAAAAATE grits. Just tastes like spackle.

Dave -- I don't know what it is about grits, but sometimes I just get a serious jones for them and I've got to get some. I remember having grits one time when I was a kid, second grade I think, and thinking, "Huh. These are pretty good." Didn't have them again until college, when I was down in Fredericksburg.

I loves me some oatmeal, and am totally with jk on the Cream of Wheat with brown sugar (piled on toast, in fact). Bet I'd like grits.

I put brown sugar and raisins in my steel cut oats. I also like white sugar and milk in my Cream O' Wheat. Malt-O-Meal rocks. Remember Co-Co Wheats? Those were good too. I guess I like them all, except for rolled oats. Made as a hot cereal, I find them too textureless and flavorless. Rolled oats are best for making oatmeal cookies.

My biggest problem with oatmeal is toppings. Plain oatmeal is not terribly exciting. I am allergic to milk, and do not like sweets.

Most people say "add cream" or "add brown sugar"... which helps me not a bit. Any suggestions for savoury toppings? (I tried various Italian seasonings, but they were too dry and crunchy) Tomatoes... just do not work.

I always have hated oatmeal but i guess the cinnamom wouldnt be too bad, i may have it sometime, when i am really hungry and bored.
