Time for Timer

Consider this Ping a two-fer.

First up, this past Friday we purchased something for our household that was long overdue – a kitchen timer/thermometer. It must be said that this little device is necessary in every home. Even if you don’t use the thermometer, at least for the timer. Having to rely on wall clocks and worry about things like how many more minutes those cookies need to be in the oven is for the birds. I’m glad we joined the 19th Century and got a timer. (Ours is a sleek digital model, though, definitely not from the 19th Century.)

And second, it’s time for Timer!

1a. We have a timer on our stove and a separate analog timer. Both are very useful -- the analog timer is great for quick naps on the couch, but it's also nice because sometimes when cooking multiple things, have two separate timers is a great help.

1b. We have a separate thermometer that we hang inside our oven because the temperature is a little bit off (we have to set it to about 425 if we want it to be 400).

2. I remember those "Sunshine On a Stick" commercials being really effective on me as a kid.

my family uses the toaster oven as a timer for cooking. and occasionally my mom uses it for dying her hair

My apartment came with an oven in it. My oven came with a timer in it, which I use. So, the digital kitchen timer I bought when we lived in our last apartment sits unused stuck to the fridge by its magnet.

Why didn't you call me? You could have had my unused digital timer for free! I'm ashamed that the usually progressive Ping promotes such waste.

I have two timers: One on the stove and one on the microwave above the stove.

Speaking of timers...here's a nifty tip thought up by a friend of mine after he had to clean up a bottle of forgotten about sparkling cider I'd brought to his party:

When you put something in the freezer to chill, set the timer for an hour or two so that you don't forget about it!

I've been doing it ever since.

I just use the timer on my cellphone...
But I do miss the timer we had when I was living in the dorms. It was shaped like a big egg, you set it by twisting the top part of the egg and it made loud ticking noises.

I actually forgot that I got an egg timer as a gift this past Christmas that looks like a chicken. But it still just dings--I had hoped it would start clucking. I don't really use it, though since I have the timer that came with the oven that came with the apartment.

Thank you for the link to Timer! Sometimes I do hanker for a hunka cheese. And I did make those juice treats! I thought I was the only one here old enough to remember that.

Stacks of snacks!
