Your Razor

As I was shaving the other day, as I am wont to do on occasion, it hit me: I’ve been using the same razor for over ten years.

Back in high school, I bought a Gillette Mach 3 razor. I don’t remember where I was when I bought it and I don’t remember it being a particuarly momentus event, but I also didn’t expect to still be using the same razor six years into the next millenium.

But here we are, and here I am, still using my three-bladed razor, shunning the mockery that has become Big Business razors with its five-bladed vibrating nonsense. It serves me mighty well and Gillette it still making replacement blades. As long as they do, I’ll continue using it.

Interestingly, about five years ago, they randomly sent me another Mach 3 in the mail, free and unsolicited. That one is now my “travel razor.”

Perhaps it’s an inherited trait. My grandfather used the same old, rusty razor for as long as I knew him. It must have dated back at least 30 years, probably more.

Not bad considering the initial investment.

Maybe I can't top that, but I've had a DISPOSABLE razor I've used for 6 months. Of course having had a beard up until this most recent job moves the usage to the lower spectrum of the face; neck only.

I accidentally bought a 5 pack of the LeFemme version of Mach 3 (not actually called LeFemme...but it was pink so females could rapidly identify them in the store) and though they cost more than the Rusty Gouger circa 1953 8 packs, they lasted me for well over my first 3 years of graduate school. The only reason I don't have them is one physically broke, but not during shaving thank God (nothing like catching the razor on a piece of shin bone) one is at my mothers so I have one when I visit, one is in my travel bag, one I gave to my mom when she visited me, and the other I tossed out not because it was dull because I was getting scared about how long I actually had it for.

The whole 'replace your razor often' is a load of poppy-cock, sort of like that 'flossing' thing. Just kidding.
I can't believe I actually stopped what I'm doing so I could share that with the world. I'm so ashamed.

Eek, welcome to the Ping, land of no shame.

I use disposable razors with twin blades. They have to pivot or I too will lose chunks of shin. It's really hard to see to shave when you are horribly near-sighted. I need swim goggles to wear in the shower like George Costanza had to wear when his misplaced his glasses at the gym.

I will use guys' or girls' razors.....does not matter as long as they work well.

I've had an Atra since high school. I use it for all fine shaving and styling.
I added a Sensor Excel in my early 20's. I like it for smooth, semi-styled shaving.
About three years ago a Mach 3 joined my collection. The blade head is a bit unweidly, but I like shaving with it more than I expected to.
I also have two or three razors that accept Trac II blades. Because they lack a pivot, I don't use them very infrequently.

What is this then?
