The Daily Ping

Not a toilet in the country has not been affected by the Ping in one way or another.

I’m on a Satellite Radio

I had a rental car with SiriusXM this weekend, and my attitudes have changed since my last rental with Sirius. Here are my two thoughts. Well, three.

  1. The music variety is not as amazing as one would think. In keeping with the terrestrial radio tradition, I managed to hear Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” at least once per day on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and today. Just as back in 07, it was fairly easy to find the same song was playing on two different stations. And songs definitely repeated a lot faster than I thought they would.
  2. I’m not an audiophile, but the music was highly compressed and sounded awful at times. Lots of that classic “underwater” sound one experiences with poorly-compressed MP3s and the like. It was very disappointing.
  3. While I did hear a few new songs, I’m not sure if this type of service is any better than Mog or Spotify for essentially the same price. The combination of music exploration + music on demand seems to be the sweet spot.
