Millennium Park

If you want to know why I love Chicago so, you need to look no further than the brand-new Millennium Park. That’s right: Millennium Park, and it’s 2004.

The Park became known for being incredibly late and incredibly over budget. I have yet to see it, but I fully expect it to be worth it – even though the corporate naming (BP Pedestrian Bridge? Bank One… er, Chase Prominade?) is a little too much. Plus, the reflective giant kidney bean!

Ah, but Mayor Daley is just nutty about parks. He did, after all, tear down an airport overnight in order to reconfigure the land as a park. I admit that I too am nutty about parks. So what makes this an example of why I love Chicago? Because the finished product is absolutely gorgeous, budget and four year tardiness be damned. I’m anxious to check out the new park.
