Gas Cutbacks

Now that gas has passed 4 bucks a gallon, some people are getting serious about gas usage. Finally.

We’ve changed our driving patterns for sure. While this weekend has been an exception and has involved a lot of driving, we definitely try to make fewer impulsive trips and consolidate into MegaTrips. We also don’t just go for a drive pretty much at all anymore… though that was on the decline anyway.

It also seems to me that, ironically, hypermarkets like SuperTarget and Wal-Mart Super Centers are in a great position, as people can just make one trip and get everything they would need. (I mean, pillows and hamburger buns at the same store? That’s America!)

A good ole fashioned strip mall is a nice thing too. In fact, I’d rather disperse my hard earned dollars to several merchants than one super conglomerate.

Ideally, a downtown with stores would be a godsend!

We’re poised at $4.00 p/gallon now. I know it’s worse elsewhere, but I haven’t seen prices like this since I lived in Europe.

When you do the metric and currency conversions, it’s twice as expensive in Germany as it is here. Most of my relatives have just one car per family, and fortunately they live close to where they work or take mass transit that actually is effective. And nearly everyone I know there drives a diesel. Diesel has always been a fraction of the cost of regular gas there, unlike here.

Can you imagine Americans buying diesel Audis? They do exist.

What is this then?
