The Fake Camera Noise and Flash

You know, cameras nowadays can be completely silent. Point-and-shoots include the little fakey-fakey camera noise just to indicate that a picture is being taken. And some devices with cameras don’t let you override this to avoid, uh, unscrupulous photos.

But I’ve noticed that a lot of TV shows add in a very loud camera sound and – worse – a fake flash. I’m really not sure why, but I see this in just about any type of show: reality, drama, comedy, LOST, you name it. What’s up with that?
