TV Homes

What TV home(s) would you like to live in?

There are a few faux-homes that have the ability to make me feel comfortable just by watching our favorite TV families interact in them. Golden Girls is one of my favorite homes (even that little nook where Sophia was tied up and gagged in one episode), Family Ties (especially when the kitchen has that orange juice container that’s in almost every episode), and (oddly) The Torkelsons are a few of the homes I wouldn’t mind visiting.

I think that the apperance of a TV home is extremely important to a show. I’d say 80% of all action on most sitcoms takes place in the home, so having it look as comforting and realistic as possible. I wouldn’t be surprised if the success of many sitcoms (especially in the 80s) was due in large part to the types of houses or apartments the Seavers, the Keatons, the Macellis, the Balki-and-cousin-Larrys were living in.

If TV homes and sets are at all interesting to you, you may want to check out TV Sets: Fantasy Blueprints of Classic TV Homes.

The Silver Spoons house. Give me that train Woo Hoo!

And speaking of sitcom houses..the Brady Bunch house has always bothered me. Mike Brady was a successful architect that could afford a full time housekeeper, yet he cramed six kids into a 3 bedroom house.

Seeing as how I've loved Alyssa Milano since childhood, I would liked to have kicked Jonathan outta there and been part of the Who's The Boss house.

I think I'd like Mary Richards' apartment. I like the screen in the kitchen that you can pull down when you want to talk about the people who are in the living room. I have walked by the house, the exterior of which was supposed to be her apartment house, on the lakes in Mpls. It was very surreal.

In keeping with the passing of Mr. Rogers I would take his pad. He had the land of Makebelieve right in his own kitchen.

I loved Karen's house on Knots Landing! My all-time favorite, however, is the set for the Brady Bunch, after the colors were neutralized for the reunion movies and wish someone would build the thing.

What is this then?
