The Reading Homeless Man

A few years back, I stayed in San Francisco up near the Metreon and not far from Chinatown. I was there for a conference, and on my way to the Moscone Center each morning, I saw a man that sat on the street near the hotel I was staying in, reading a book. A deep, philosophical tome, if I remember correctly. He had a cup sitting out, accepting spare change, and though he’d never make eye contact to ask for money, he would look up from his book and mutter a sincere “thank you” if you dropped some coinage in his cup. A year later when I returned, he was still there every day, reading away, feeding his mind.

Do any San Francisco Pingers know the guy I’m talking about? Is he still there?
