Find a Hike

A gorgeous weekend is approaching and you’re looking for a good place to go for a hike. Where do you turn?

Might I suggest Organized by metro areas, LocalHikes lets visitors submit reviews, pictures, directions, etc. to various hiking trails and locations. There’s a pretty decent selection at the site (the Washington-Baltimore area had 58 hikes listed) ranging from easy, paved trails to strenuous trails that have “rock scrambles.” I found a number of good suggestions, including a trail I’ve hiked a few times before (and where I ended up again this weekend). The site’s not overrun with ads, so it’s pretty easy to find what you want without the fluff.

Similar sites worth exploring:’s trail reviews and the Sierra Club’s “outings” section.

I looked and my metropolitan area is not listed. The next closest metropolitan area is listed. This is strange because it is only about two thirds the population of the area where I live.
