New Online Lingo

The other day, my local newscast promised me lots of information on “new online lingo” that teens were using. It was really vital information, so I wanted to share it with you.

First of all, teens use something called IM – that’s “instant messaging” – that is like email but instant. You type it in, and there it is on the other screen! It’s used more than phone calls now. Amazing.

Within these IMs, though, teens are using their own language. It doesn’t have a name, but if you’ve ever seen some weird things being used on the IM, they were probably shorthand – acronyms. Here are a few I learned about.

LOL – Laughing Out Loud (I like this one)
BTW – By The Way
BRB – Be Right Back

Clever, isn’t it? Do you know of any of this hot, hip new online lingo?

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
