There were rumors of a Ping book, but those were started on the internet.

The Courtesy Wave

If I’m driving and I have to change lanes in front of somebody and it’s clear that they have to hit their brakes because of me, I’ll give them a little courtesy wave… a “thanks for letting me in” wave. I’ve noticed over the last few days that most people don’t even bother any more. There were at least four times where I purposely slowed down to let someone in front of me who was changing lanes, and none of those times did I get the courtesy wave. I figured I’d at least get a wave from the guy with the license plate of “AVA GDAY,” but even he happily cut me off without any acknowledgement. It really annoyed me.

Do you still practice the “courtesy wave?”

Absolutely. I also give the "Thanks for the courtesy wave wave" back.

I do practice the courtesy wave, and I also am known to let people merge in front of me in tight situations. I like it when trucks do fancy stuff with their lights to thank me.

Absolutely, and I also curse like a sailor when I let somebody in and don't get the curtesy wave. Same thing about holding doors for the person behind me, male or female. In that case, I've been known to throw out a nice loud your welcome to their non-existant thank you.

I always dispense the courtesy wave. I'm in a company vehicle all day long with the stations logo painted on the side, so if I'm an ass, they know where to get me at. ;p

Now, when I'm driving my personal car....if they don't wave when i let them in, I wave right back, except not always with five fingers..

The same people who fail to give the courtesy wave, most likely fail to give a courtesy reach-around.

I always give a courtesy wave and I often let people in in front of me when they're merging onto 66 or some other major road. I don't let EVERYone in, but I often let 1 or 2. Though many times people will just keep going because they hope to get 1 or 2 cars ahead. :P

You have to buy the March 1 issue of Auto Week! The folks at Cooper Mini included a little tablet of score cards on which you and your friends can compete to see who's the nicest driver. You get points for the courtesy wave, letting someone merge, jumping someone's battery, etc. You can allegedly print the score cards from the Cooper Mini website as well. Even though I'd never buy their product, their advertising is very clever and whimsical. (Whimsy is generally not a word I use when car-shopping!)

What is this then?
