A Word We Should Use More Often

This world would be a better place if we didn’t just “leave,” but if we “skedattled.” Really, how could you have any ill will towards someone who’s so happy-go-lucky that he’ll use a goofy word like “skedattle” in place of a much simpler word that would have done the trick.

Let’s make today National Skedattle Day and try to use the word at least once. If it doesn’t make the world a happier place, I’ll eat my words. Or at least that one.

I'll give it a shot. It seems like a valid and reasonable request. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to make like a tree and get out of here.

You're right - they wouldn't - being English they might say 'skedaddle' though

I don't know if skedattle is a perfectly synonymous with "to leave." I always thought skedattle added an element of haste. Dictionary.com agrees:

skedaddle

By the way, the proper spelling does not seem to be href="http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=skedattle">skedattle.

If the spelling were schedaddle, I suppose the Brits might shedaddle too, but pronounce it without the "k" sound as they do schedule, which they pronounce "shedule."

Hate to be the nerd, here, but I can't help myself. I'll skedaddle now.

Oops.
