A number of years ago, I noticed that my household was receiving small catalogs chock full of strange and offbeat items. I remember Funny Side Up, which sold Spencer-esque gifts at low low prices, and of course, Harriet Carter.
If you haven’t seen one of these catalogs, it’s kind of like running into a dollar store but the items are more than a dollar. The variety is the same: you’ll find garden gnomes, flag display cases, and funny t-shirts along with strange items you would never, ever consider buying, ever.
Thankfully, Cabel at the great Mac company Panic has compiled a series of disturbing images from the Harriet Carter catalog. My favorite is easily the faces one can attach to trees, but the dog steps – a staircase for pets to get on and off the couch – is a close second.
