I remember when PCs were measured in megahertz!

That’s what we’ll be saying in a year or two. Really. AMD released their 1.0GHz Athlon chip today (although it costs a lot), and the Intel P3 version is not far behind.

It’s funny, because my first computer – a Commodore VIC-20 – ran at 0.5Hz, if I recall correctly. The Commodore 64 ran at 1Hz, and the 128 was the speed demon at 2Hz.

Do we need all this speed? Well, we might in the coming years. But I think a lot of it is just being crammed down our throats. -pm
