Car Ride Food

So, it’s time to go on a car ride. Not a long one… four or five hours. But you know you’ll need something to snack on during the trip. What do you bring?

I’ll usually bring a salty snack like pretzels or crackers. Occasionally, I’ll bring some fruit along. They say nuts are good for long trips because the crunching and frequent reaching to the bag help keep you awake, but I never seem to have any nuts on hand (shush, you!). To drink, I’ll always have a bottle of water and sometimes I’ll grab an Honest Tea for the drive. If I’m dragging a bit during the trip, I may make a stop for a bottle of Vanilla Coke.

Pretzel rods are the perfect roadtrip food...you can hang onto it while gripping the steering wheel, or situate it, cigar-style, if you absolutely need both hands free.

Anything bite-sized. It must be this way otherwise you'll get crumbs all over the car. To drink - Sanpple or Lipton raspberry iced tea.

I like to chew gum on road trips. It keep the ole whistle wet without consuming a lot of liquids, which helps minimize rest stops too.

Chex Mix is fantastic for road trips..2 favourites: Either the new Honey Nut flavor, or the kind you can make yourself..nothing can really beat that. :)

To drink, Tradewinds Lemon/Lime Ice Tea, or a Coca-Coca Slurpee..yeah, you'll pee like crazy later, but a Coke Slurpee is 44oz of frozen refreshment from heaven.

Ok, time for a little fun. Actually a guy at work did this act of revenge one day to a co-worker. Fresh salmon on the exhaust manifold. Burnt up and smeled for weeks....AWESOME if the person deserves it. GO for it...be a man!

I'm going on a 5 hour car trip on Friday Morning. I'm a mobile DJ, and I'm traveling to play music for a family reunion. The problems I'm encountering when deciding road snacks are 3 major health things.

1. I've got kidney stones.

2. I've got IBS.

3. I'm allergic to anything that has peanuts (or peanut oil in it) and I'm also allergic to anything that has partially hydroginated oils in it. I'm not big on fruits & vegitables either though.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what would be good to munch on considering these things?

Carina, it sounds like you should have talked to your doctor about this long ago. You obviously need to avoid your trigger foods. I strongly recommend finding (if you have not already done so) a doctor who recognizes the complexity of your digestive system and actually has advice on how to manage it.
