A Simple Improvement to the Can Opener

Yesterday as I was opening a can of soup, I looked down at my fancy new can opener and realized it was lacking one thing. Follow me on this one.

Can lids are metal.

Magnets can ‘pick up’ metal.

Thus, can openers should have a magnet on them so one can pick up the metal lid without the risk of cutting one’s finger open. Am I right?

Mine has a magnet... I thought they were standard issue for electric can openers...

(Here are some epinions that mention the magnet.)

I will agree... it's a very nice feature and has saved many a cut finger around the MacMichael household.

I grew up using one of those electronic openers with the magnet. Now I've given them up entirely for quality hand can openers. Sure, my hands are covered in Band-Aids and I have lock-jaw, but come natural disaster time I'll have no trouble getting into my pork and beans. I miss that magnet though...

Ah, electric can openers - I mean manual ones.

I only use the can opener on my swiss army knife.

Or you could use the spiffy Smooth-Edge Can Opener from Pampered Chef. And no, I don't work for them, but the idea SEEMED neat.

Rob brings up the point of the Smooth Edge Can Opener. My mother got one of those a year or so ago, and she absolutely loves it.

This kinda makes up for Rob's "sex with a yak" from yesterday........kinda.

I couldn't help it! It was the first thing that came to my mind. It felt like word association or something.

As Ryan pointed out in a recent e-mail, my mind always seems to be in some part of the gutter. :P

the only problem with the smooth edged canopener is that you cannot strain tunafish after you open the can with that.

What is this then?
