A Little Controversy, Anyone?

This sign was up just blocks from my house.

The word “settled” was removed around mid-morning, and the “Jews” part was removed by noon. On the latter, it was removed by a passing motorist. She saw it and was offended, so she bought a ladder and took the letters down.

We’ve driven by this church’s signs before and noticed two things. First, they’re usually punny – not very thought-provoking. Second, there’s another church about three blocks away that tends to use the exact same wording on its signs. I have a feeling they didn’t copy the sign this time.

“Lovingway,” indeed.

Jeez, you'd think Mel Gibson's dad was behind that sign.

(Speaking of him, I heard those tapes of him this morning... man that guy is wacked out of his gourd!)

So, we are condoning the passing motorist for theft of private property, just because we don't agree with the message on the sign? Not me - private property, right of free expression trump here.

I have no idea what really happened about 2000 yeas ago - and nobody else does either. It's all opinion. Mel Gibson may be 100% right, he may be 100% wrong.

I do find it interesting that until yesterday, 100% of the people complaining and protesting had never seen the movie.

Oh my goodness, my eyes must still be trying to wake up because when I read your text, I read "jaws" instead of "jews."

When I tried to follow the link, it crashed my computer, but I think I get the point. Anywho, our sins killed Jesus. He HAD to die....hello, Old Testament prophecy had to be fulfilled in order for everything to work. No more killing sheep for a blood sacrifice; the Son of God came here to be the ultimate scarifice. SOMEONE had to kill him, and it happened to be the Jews, His own people.

Even if you don't agree with Mel or his approach, at least this has people talking.

I assume by "we" you're not referring to the Head Pingers, right? (Neither of us "approved" of the stealing...)

That's America!

The same people who complain about the movie are the same type of people who complain about lyrics to a controversial recocord, yet have never heard it.

The only people who are usually offended by a message such as this are the guilty party. If the shoe doesn't fit then...

Controversy? How about "provocation"?

This sort of thing frustrates me, when it comes to the Christian community. It's like they keep forgetting Matthew 7:3..To paraphrase, why point out the splinter in another's eye while ignoring the plank coming out of yours?

Here's my point: Jesus knew He was going die. He predicted it numerous times. It doesn't matter that it was the Jews that put Jesus up on the cross. No matter what group might have been there, the exact same thing would have happened. Jews, Germans, Italians..we all would have disowned Him. That point is made when Peter disowns Him three times. Even those closest to Jesus disowned Him.

The sad thing about this is (having seen the movie)..It's a very powerful, emotional film that, at the least, can stir some interesting conversations. However, the actions of some, like those posting the sign, do nothing but further divide us.

I've got a better sign:

Mel Gibson shilled Jesus.

I always thought that the ROMANS killed Jesus, not "the Jews".

*shrug*

Jews killed Jesus physically. But any Christian who remembers what he or she was taught in Catechism knows that the importance is not who killed him, but why he died and who he died for. The teaching goes that Jesus saved the world from death by bringing ever-lasting life to each one of those who accepts Jesus as their savior. There is a hymn that goes "By Death, He conquered Death."

No death, no salvation. It's as simple as that. Instead of blaming Jews, Christians ought to run to the synagogue and give a hearty thanks.

By the way, Jews also mourned the death of Jesus--who, by the way, was a Jew. Jesus's mother, a Jew, was not very happy about the whole thing.

I'm not Jewish, but this whole hubbub to me reveals that there are those who forget the teachings of their own faith in order to pick a fight.

Stupid.
