The Daily Ping

Ain't no party like a Ping party!

March 24th, 2001

Dad

A personal note on the Ping today: today would have been my father’s 53rd birthday. My father was a wonderful person, a very headstrong man who always put his family first. He meant the world to me, but cancer took him away from this world nearly three years ago.

This is part of the reason why, when you purchase something from the Ping Store, a portion of the proceeds goes to the Cancer Research Foundation of America. Cancer is truly one of those things that can affect you and your family on every level you can imagine, and its effects are long-lasting. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about my dad, and wish he was back here.

But since nothing I can do can bring him back, all I ask is that you take every single moment you have with your parents and cherish them. And also, if someone you know and/or love has cancer, don’t lose hope. -pm

Paul - you're absolutely right about appreciating your parents when you still have them. My mother passed away 4 years ago -- she had cancer as well -- and I miss her in so many ways. When I hear people say how awful their parents are, I think (or tell them) it's 100 times worse when they aren't in your life at all.

You're quite right, Tina. I really pity people who (think that they) hate their parents. Parents are the first people to support you and the only ones you can trust to say when everyone else is gone. If I didn't have mine I don't know where I'd be in life. I hope I've learned better than to ever taken them for granted.

Thanks for sharing that, Paul.

It's an incredibly painful thing to lose a loved one, as most of us know or will soon find out, but fortuntely we have a lot of happy memories of the time we did get to spend together.

What is this then?
