Old ASCII Art

I’m stealing today’s link from the front page of MeFi because it’s just that good.

Knowing that my co-Pinger was something of an ASCII artist (who is Keith and why is his computer blowing up?), I couldn’t pass up this link to ASCII art in 1948. Of course, at the time it was called “Keyboard Art,” but it’s essentially the same: pictures made only with characters from a keyboard, drawn in a monospaced font. In some ways, Keyboard Art was even more flexible than ASCII art since it allowed half-spaces to create things like eyes. On the other hand, computer generated ASCII art can get pretty complex.

Impressive stuff.
